Film Week!

After months of no cinema last week I went 3 times! Bang bang bang, it was fabulous. The first visit was totally impromptu, I had been for cream tea with Cat and we were mooching about town wondering what to do afterwards. Almost simultaneously we both suggested cinema. A very quick discussion and decision making process took place and we were suddenly sat down waiting for 'Now You See Me' to start. We couldn't have made a better choice, it was fun, heist-tastic, and totally hit the Tuesday afternoon spot. Film week had begun!

Next up was the pre-planned 'Monsters University'. I was really looking forward to it and wasn't at all let down, though I did kind of miss Boo, she is beyond cute. And I loved the Blue Umbrella story at the beginning, those Pixar people are clever indeedy.

By the time film 3 came around I was beginning to wonder how I could have gone so long without seeing any films. I'm hooked right back in and already planning what is next. The final film of the week was fittingly the final in Richard Linklater's Before trilogy: Before Midnight. This was not so easy to watch and even though I like to think that all over the world there are people sitting round tables eating and talking so seriously and intently, the reality is probably not quite like that. The intensity of the film, and the close quarters parts of it were filmed in, as well as a whole scene where Julie Delpy was topless and being so serious and be honest I was quite glad when it was over. I'm glad I saw it but it's definitely not one I could watch over and over again, unlike the first, Before Sunrise, which was a lovely and charming watch.

Film week! Loving it. I think next on the list is The Bling Ring, but before that I might fit in much choice. Films are ace they are, totally ace.

I realised today that it is often the simple things in life that bring me the most pleasure. Today was one of those times. I was just sat on the garden bench with Wavey, we were enjoying a happy lean against each other and chatting quietly about nothing really. A simple thing. Kind of like a red balloon...

Perfect Timing

Yesterday I decided to get off my lazy arse and install the water butt I had bought weeks earlier. It had been taking up space in the porch and generally getting in my way but we hadn't had any rain for ages so I was using that as a half-hearted excuse. I'm very pleased with how it looks!

Then last night it, after weeks of sunny skies and hardly a drop of rain, it poured down. This morning I had to have a peek - I thought it might have been maybe a quarter full or so - but it's nearly full! How brilliant is that!

For hire

Despite high hopes and the best will in the world my marketing job did not work out as planned. There are many reasons for this, none of them that I can really write about, suffice it to say that it wasn't what I had hoped for and frankly after 12 years in my previous role of way less than I had hoped for I wasn't about to put up with that crap again. Graciously exit one Dizz from said marketing job and said Dizz is now back on the job market.

I have to say I'm quite bummed about this. It's not where I hoped to be and it's a bit of an inconvenience. There's only so much ironing one girl can do before it all just becomes too much! Maybe I can get paid to iron...? Ugh, no way.

So here I am. I've trawled round several job sites, all of them disappointing. I've rung a temp agency who were frankly not very friendly and a bit dismissive of me as the job I was asking about had been advertised for a whole week. Well excuse me for just looking today and calling to enquire *sticks tongue out* Big sigh. I'm not a person who is easy at being unemployed. I've worked since I was 16 in some job or another and it's odd to not be with one now. This has only happened to me two other times before and I don't think I can bear to go and sign on. Just the thought of it makes me shudder, it's so gloomy and down trodden and even if you feel fine going in you soon come out feeling just that. Ho hum.

Oh well. Back to the job search I suppose. Another big sigh :(

Strawberry fields forever...

With all the lovely warm weather we have been enjoying I have felt inspired to try so many new drinks to truly refresh and quench the thirst. My first discovery was Spiced Ice Tea which was yum-diddly-scrumptious, and was popular among the guests that day. Today I had an iced coffee made for me that was deeeelicious, it tasted a bit like a coffee flavoured milkshake which probably sounds rank to a lot of people but it really hit the spot. My most favourite discovery though is flavoured water. I read on a couple of blogs how people essentially just filled a container with water and then added whatever they felt like to change the flavour. Ha-ha thought I, easy peasy.

First up was ginger and mint. I was a bit disappointed in this as you could taste the mint but no hint of the ginger. Next experiment. Lemon wedges. Nice but I've had that before so nothing exciting. Tonight it's strawberries left overnight to infuse the water. Who knew that something so simple could be oh so tasty? And the container looks so pretty in the fridge. Oh oh, girlie alert!

Losing count...

...of all the sunny days.

...of the number of meals we've eaten outside.

...of the number of hours I have sat on the bench, applied suntan lotion, and read my book.

...of how many times I have worn sandals and flip flops.

...of all the pretty dresses and skirts that I have unearthed from the back of the wardrobe.

...of the number of hours I spend outside each day.

I am LOVING this weather. I want it to last forever. But even if it doesn't, to have had these last couple of weeks of glorious blue skies, sun filled days, balmy nights, is quite simply the best!

Working the links

Taking advice from several people I am currently creating a profile on that Linky thing. Now that I've moved on from the library and am getting experience that will help change my career I am slowly beginning to understand that these are the things I need to do to help me with the next phase. But boy am I struggling!

Don't tell anyone, sshhh, but the thing is I don't really consider myself very professional. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a total idiot and when I'm in a work environment I get my head down and get on with the tasks. I'm very efficient and organised and courteous and I answer the phone politely and am generally a very good employee. But, and this is the problem, I'm a bit of a class clown. That mischievous person who is always giggling, that's me. Usually wearing something a bit on the clashing of colours or patterns side and possibly has shoes with holes in them. These are not things that make a professional person. A professional person has a suit that matches and possibly even shoes that match too. They probably have tidy hair and makeup that isn't smudged. See how I associate professional with groomed?

This new trying to be professional thing has me struggling. I've even tried to colour co-ordinate which doesn't sit very comfortably with me I have to say. And now I'm trying to think of things to write on my profile to present myself to the world and I'm having to resist very hard the urge to be the class clown. Will I ever become professional? I'd like to think that I will. One day. I wonder if the circus are hiring...?

Summer lovin', had me a blast

The sun has got his hat on, hip hip hip hooray, the sun has got his hat on and he's coming out to play. Every day! For days now. Sun sun sun. I am absolutely loving it. Every meal has been eaten al fresco, because it's the law. We've eaten and drunk and celebrated with friends and had an absolutely crackin' weekend.

It's been so long since we've had real Summer days in July, the time when you're actually supposed to have hot and sunny days. Seriously. You cannot imagine our joy. Long may it continue!

Kinda hot in the greenhouse / Sunflower / Wavey and his new parasol
