weather report

The summer so far is a wash-out. And I mean literally. All we have is rain. Rain rain rain. The following have now become everyday essentials:

I'm looking for someone to blame. So I'm blaming Rhianna, cos her song Umbrella has been at the number 1 slot in the Top 40 for 7 weeks now. 7! Count 'em! She should have written a song called Sunshine. Then we'd all have been happy :o(

Transformers... Robots in Disguise!

One of my friends is mad about transformers at the moment. You know who you are. She keeps singing the song and doing a daft little dance that she thinks looks like a transformer transforming.

So here it is, the ultimate transformer/Dr. Who geek's outfit...

move over Meg

How cool is Fizz? Last night saw the end of our theatre group's current show, also ending our season. This last show was a musical thingy with 13 lovely ladies singing lots of songs, 43 songs. And with songs comes a band (I'm getting to my point, honest). So the band had a pianist, a bassist and a drummer. With his own drum kit. And something I have always wanted to do is play the drums. So without telling me, Fizz approached the drummer and told him that I want to play the drums. So last night I'm tidying up in the bar, and drummer boy comes up to me and says, "I heard you want to play the drums, come and have a go". I think I might have squealed a bit!

First things first, sit down, he says, most important. At this point I'm thinking that my swirly girly jaunty angle party dress and 3 inch black stilettos are not going to be the best drumming outfit. Shoes came off. My very first drum lesson began. 1-2-3-4. On the 1 press the pedal for the bass drum. On the 3 hit that other drum (whose name I've forgotten). So off I went, 1 (press foot down, bass drum was hit, wow!)-2-3 (hit that other drum with the other stick)-4. And keep going! OHMYGOD I was playing the drums! Drummer boy said I did very well (I'm sure he was just being nice) but god was it cool! After 5 minutes of that he says, "just hit any of them" so I did, and went a bit mad just hitting all the drums and seeing what they sounded like. I was very smiley Dizz.

Now that I've actually had a go I'm more determined than ever that I'm going to learn how to play the drums properly. Cos I wanna be just like Meg from the White Stripes cos she rocks! So after San Fran (cos that's where all my pennies are going at the moment) I'm going to phone some of those numbers I already got and get me some lessons. My poor neighbours...

So I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to Fizz for doing that for me. Cos it was so incredibly amazing.

SPIM

People talk to me. I mean, really talk. They do, they always have done. I don't have a name for this but people always tell me stuff, secrets, skinny. That's just how it is. (Before I go any further I'd just like to reassure all readers that I have never before blogged about what people tell me, I am the secret keeper) Often what people tell me can be too much for my delicate ears and I have to file it away in the "I'll pretend I didn't just hear that" part of my brain.

Brief background now: 2 of my lovely friends are pregnant. And because people talk to me as I said above I've been very involved with these pregnancies. I've joined in every ache, twinge, twitch, freaky movements (eeek!), buying of baby furniture...I could go on but I won't, cos it sounds like I mind and I don't really...much. I'll be honest, on occasion the baby talk has been a wee bit too much for me but the glazed expression usually makes them stop ;o)

Sheesh this is long-winded, it's cos I'm at work on overtime and I keep stopping and starting.

Pregnant 1 has finished work already. And is one week away from giving birth! Surely deserving of a very loud EEEEEKKKKK! Everyone is on tenterhooks. We're texting everyday to see if there are any developments. Today there was a development. And Pregnant 1 described it in her usual sardonic manner: SPIM: sharp pains in muff...and I don't think she meant one of those hand warmers (!) that ice skaters use.

When I read it I laughed out loud. I really did. Out loud. In quiet library land. I couldn't believe that she had put that word in an email! When I replied saying just that, she amended the word to the correct medical term, but by then it was beyond funny and bordering on hysteria. And I told her I was going to blog about it to share the joy!

There you have it. I told you that people tell me stuff! And now you know what kind of stuff I hear. I have a feeling that most of you reading this are filing it away under the "noooooooo" part of your brain. And that makes me chuckle quietly. Ta-ta x

Vacancy

First I want to say big congratulations to Dizz and D for completing the Race for Life! Well done both of you I'm so proud. Secondly, I am enjoying the mini films being produced by Fizz and look forward to the next installment. Now on to the subject, I went to the cinema a few days back to see Vacancy. It wasn't too bad and normally horror films don't really bother me, but with the prospect of staying in a Motel during our San Fran trip I just want to make it known to any motel owning would-be snuff-filmmakers that I know the score and not to mess with two Brit-chicks when they come to stay. Also we have lots of friends who will know where we are staying in case you get any nasty ideas. Just thought I'd put it out there....

We did it!

Fizz is so lovely, she beat me to it by telling you about the Race. But I wanted to tell you a bit more about it and share some photos as well.

During the Christmas holiday 2006 my lovely friend D lost her mum to cancer. Her mum put up a fight and she battled on for much longer than the doctors predicted and surprised us all. It was such a sad and horrible time and I was at a total loss cos my friend was hurting and I couldn't do anything to help. I'm so very proud of D for how she's come through the other side and hope that I did a good job as her friend.

But we wanted to do something in her mum's memory. And this is where the Race for Life comes in. Each year, Cancer Research organise these races and millions of women all over Britain take part, raising money as they go. So we signed up. Even though we never run. And would really rather eat cake. But we did really well. This is our sponsor page, and we also both raised money on our paper sponsor forms so we reckon our personal total is about 500 quid.

The race is 5km (about 3 miles), and today it was through some very muddy woods due largely to the never ending rain! We completed it in 43 mins and 6 seconds. And just in case you don't believe it, here's the photos to prove us crossing the finishing line:

Thanks to everyone who sponsored us and supported us. It was a really special thing to do. And we're pretty sure that D's mum was looking down on us at the end and cheering us on loudly xx

Well Done Dizz And D!

Dizz and her friend D. did the run for life today. Well done to both of them! (and everyone else who's done it, whether I know them or not.)

Dizz - how about posting a photo of your medal?

Mwah,
Fizz
